Farm Town: Tips and Tricks part 6 (Facebook) – Best New Income / XP Crop
Farm Town: Tips and Tricks part 6 (Facebook) – Best New Income / XP Crop
I’ve been receiving requests for updates to my spreadsheet and to calculate the profits for the new crops. If you’re new to my site, I’ve created a spreadsheet that I offer for sale in which I have calculated the best income / xp crops for the Facebook game Farm Town. I have also made a few posts about Farm Town in which I explain the spreadsheets calculations and some of my findings.
Farm Town Best New Income Crops
Using my spreadsheet, I added the information for the new crops in Farm Town and determined the best new income crops. Taking into account this new information, here are the top 4 crops based on profit / hour.
Raspberry
Grapes
Pineapple
Pepper
Facebook: Farm Town Raspberry seeds
The Raspberry seeds have edged out Grapes in both profit / hour and xp / hour. Because they can be harvested after 2 hours, you would be able to earn twice as much XP from them than you could with Grapes. Also, their profit / hour is almost double that of Grapes, WOW!

I am really loving the new raspberry crops, because of their ability to get you so much xp by planting multiple times a day.

There’s one problem with the simple calculation. You don’t take into account the actual return on investment fully. You just look at actual cash brought in that day. On mine, I divide the actual cash brought in by the original cost to get an ROI or return on investment.
As and example, let’s look at potatoes versus strawberries using the numbers given in the store (you don’t need to include plowing costs to figure the best crop because it’s a common cost and I’m just too lazy right now to find out what the hired hand price is for the crops in question). If you do things the way you describe, it appears that potatoes would be a way better crop because you make 4 more coins per day. However, if you expand your view to a longer period of time, say 5 days a different story reveals itself.
After 5 days planting potatoes, I will have spent 200 coins for seed and I will have made 295 coins. Awesome, a profit of 95 coins. If instead I planted strawberries, I will have spent 150 coins and made 275. That’s a profit of 125 coins!
Long term, you have to consider how much of what you spend you get back – that is, return on investment. Raspberries remain king with Strawberries falling second.

You state that you get more money if you have someone else harvest your crops. But you have to pay them for harvesting.
By observation I’ve found that the crop makes 1/3 more money if it is “large.” For example, if it would normally get 300 coins, you get 400 coins instead.
But then you have to pay out 25 percent of that value, which, wow, coincidentally, is the increment you get over the regular size crop. Your 400 coins is now 300 again. It’s a wash.
There are rounding errors, but it’s pretty much no bonus for you to have others harvest your crops, coin-wise.
There are still benefits. You don’t have to spend your time harvesting. And you can always make more money by harvesting for others.
An ideal arrangement would be you and your friends having loads of pumpkins, or whatever the highest-priced crop is, so the coins you’d get from each other for harvesting would be maximized.

Have you added in the cost for plowing?

You do need to add in the cost of plowing since you have to do it more often if it takes less days for the crop to be ready?
EXP:
So for the pinnapple if you plow yourself it cost 20 for three days. While say the cabbage (I know not on your list) would cost 60 for three days worth of crop.
So does it change when you add that in?
PS
ALSO in reply to JoAnne you DO NOT pay ppl to harvest. Farmtown pays for that and you make more money. It is a way to get ppl to be more social. Why else would you hire them. With the plowing if you hire someone it costs you less and you get 2pt instead of the 1pt you get if you do it yourself.

Here’s the math:
Selling Price/Cost of Seed + Cost to Plow
(I’m going to assume you hire out the plowing)
-Grapes:
56/20+15 = 1.6 every four hours
-Raspberries:
47/15+15 = 1.57 every two hours
1.57 X 2 = 3.13 every four hours
(since you can farm this twice in the same amount of as the grapes)
Even when you factor in the length of time and how many times you plow, raspberries still come out on top.
