FarmVille Tips and Tricks: Plow Faster with a Tractor

The new FarmVille Tractor

What does the FarmVille Tractor do?

While playing FarmVille today, I got a pop up message telling me that “FarmVille has been Enhanced.” The note that accompanied that message explained that they have implemented a new item into the game, a Tractor. However, the FarmVille Tractor is not just for decoration. At a cost of 30,000 coins, the FarmVille Tractor will allow you to plow a 2×2 section at a time as opposed to a single plot at a time without the Tractor. As with most items in the game, buying them rewards you with XP. Unfortunately, another pop up blocked my view of exactly how much XP purchasing the tractor awarded. However, thanks to some truly awesome readers, we got the information via comments. It appears to give 300XP when purchased.

How does the FarmVille Tractor work?

Once purchased, the FarmVille Tractor adds a second option to the Plow menu:

Selecting this new option will allow you to plow 2×2 plots at a time:

How do you refuel the FarmVille Tractor?

They do require FarmVille Tractor Fuel to operate.

FarmVille Tractor Fuel after Plowing

As you can see in the image above, after using the tractor to plow it reduces the FarmVille Tractor Fuel a small amount. As of right now, I’m not able to determine how to refuel the FarmVille Tractor’s Fuel. I’m either missing something, or the FarmVille creators have not added that feature yet. Otherwise, it may require the FarmVille Tractor’s fuel gauge to be completely empty prior to giving you the option to refuel. Ok, thanks again to some great readers, I received comments that confirm that the fuel refills gradually over time. Also, buying two tractors currently has no benefit. This may change in the future, but two individuals have reported no increase in total fuel or fuel regeneration speed. If anyone notices something different, or otherwise has more information, make a comment and let me know.

— UPDATE 8/20 —
The Facebook Game FarmVille has been updated and now includes purchasable fuel for your tractors! .. Wait.. you can’t buy it with coins? It takes FarmVille Cash? That sucks. Yeah, that’s right. Zynga has released yet another update to their FarmVille game, and it requires you to spend REAL money. I looked back at the game, and I think the ‘Fuel Tanks’ as they are labeled under the Tractors section of the market, may add additional fuel capacity to the tractor rather than refilling the fuel. This seems to be more likely rather than my first assumption. The fuel tanks only refill your fuel levels. One reader commented saying that purchasing one of the refuel tanks gave him or her 300 out of the total possible 150 fuel. Once that was used, it was gone.

I have mixed feelings about this.
The bad:

  • This is stupid, there isn’t ANY way to get a Tractors fuel refilled other than time, or spending real cash.
  • It upsets me, because I KNOW there are people out there that will pay money for this, further encouraging them to add more items that require real money to purchase.

The good?:

  • Some people will spend real money on the game to purchase the fuel. This, in turn, will attract more attention from Zynga causing them to create more content and produce more updates.

What do you think about the FarmVille Tractor Fuel refills costing real cash?

With all of that being said. There seems to be three benefits to the most recent update that we don’t have to pay (real cash) for:

  1. A new color of tractor.
  2. New crops!
    • Carrots
    • Red Wheat
    • Yellow Melon

Check out my other FarmVille post, Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 1) – Best Income / XP Crops, for more crop information.

  3. Fuel Gauge Popup

fuel popup Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 2) – Tractor (Plow Faster)

FarmVille Fuel Gauge Popup

Hovering your mouse over the Fuel Gauge now displays the total amount of fuel you currently have out of 150, and a countdown timer of how long until you will receive more fuel. The timer counts down form 2:30 (2 minutes thirty seconds) and will reward you with 1 additional point of fuel when it runs out. It also looks like they may have increased the maximum amount of fuel from 100 to 150.. although, I was never able to confirm that the original counter was 100 to begin with.

What the FarmVille Tractor wont do.

The FarmVille Tractor does not help you harvest or plant your crops. All it does is help you plow the fields. I would assume they will be coming out with other equipment you can purchase that will help with the other aspects of farming (planting and harvesting).

Other FarmVille Tractor options:

A fun little ‘Horn’ option is in the list. I won’t spoil the fun, try it out for yourself.

Should I buy two FarmVille Tractors to increase my fuel?

As mentioned elsewhere in this post, having two FarmVille Tractors will not currently be beneficial. Two of my readers / FarmVille players have reported buying a second FarmVille Tractor and it has neither increased their total fuel, nor their fuel regeneration rate. Although, as pointed out by Farmer Doug, the Tractor does look pretty cool. Having a 2nd on your FarmVille Farm would make for a nice decoration. So, as it is right now, owning two will not effect your FarmVille Tractor Fuel.

Did you see the Combine Harvester that arrived last night.
$30,000 to purchase and you get 300experience points.

The damn thing uses THE SAME FUEL as the tractor – so you can either plow or harvest but you can’t do both unless you spend real $’s to buy fuel.

And neither has enough fuel to do the whole expanded farm. Grrrrr

  • Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 3) – Harvester (Harvest Faster) | The Modern Hippy Male Says:

[...] Quite obviously, it harvests. The FarmVille harvester allows you to harvest a 2×2 section of crops with one click. It uses 4 fuel and awards you the same amount of coins you would have gotten otherwise. @mikeP
From my calculations that I did when I first saw it pop up, it gives you 50 coins. From reading the forums, it gives you 100 coins.
Either way, it’s a good thing.

  • buddara Says:

when i plow, this happens to my gf too, coins float up from the soil sometimes and once i got a farmville dollar by clicking on it. all atempts since have failed, do you have any suggestions

  • Anne Says:

I have both the tractor and harvester, and agree its a pain not having enough fuel. However i divide up the farm and plant in sections so that when they are ready to harvest i have enough fuel to harvest and plow that section, and then when the next lot are ready the fuel is full again

  • Rick Says:

    @buddara
According to other players, the coin flipping up in the air means you “found” 100 coins. I’ve never heard of anyone receiving a FarmVille Dollar by clicking on it. However, I think you get a dollar when you level up.

  • Trish Moore Says:

The tractor will only do 1/3 of my field. Then I have to do the rest one field at a time anyway. I feel that I totally wasted 30,000 coins and now that a harvester is available, I will not buy it because I am so disappointed in the tractor and the difficulty in getting fuel. I think farmville lost a lot of its appeal with the release of this equipment only because of the uselessness of it.

  • wordchef Says:

Thought the tractor was pretty neat, but not wild about the refueling wait time. Thought the harvester was cool too, but after purchasing both, realized that they share fuel! RIDICULOUS! Plus you can ONLY get fuel by actually paying for it, or waiting for hours. No way to even harvest half a farm, much less plow it, using these high-coin items! I wish they would have given us more info upfront about these items, because I definitely feel ripped off.

  • Ryne Says:

I’m amazed at everyones stupidity. I’m getting sick of everyone whining. “OMG what a waste of money!” “Wah, wah, the tractor is completely useless, it won’t do my whole farm!” Cry me a river. Think of how stupid that sounds. It doesn’t do EVERYTHING for me, therefore its USELESS. Its not useless. Yes, the refueling sucks. Yes, sharing the tank with the harvester sucks. But the tractor is far from useless. I have a 14×14 farm (for now). Thats 196 squares. 196 times I have to click to plow the whole thing. The tractor does just over 3/4 of that for me. The number of times I click with tractor plus the remaining squares when it runs out of fuel is a whopping 84. 84! Thats less than half if I didn’t buy the tractor. Just because it wont plow, seed, and harvest your whole farm doesn’t make it USELESS. Wake up you idiots. It helps. Maybe not a lot, but it helps. That means it has some use. It costs the same to plow with the tractor as it does by hand so technically its not worth the money. But it does save a lot of TIME! I value my time WAY more than I value coins in Farmville.

  • alex Says:

i wasted all my fuel and it won’t refuel over time..im kind of worried i will need to buy fuel now

  • thanachai Says:

tractor are so bad because it can’t refuel.

  • FarmerScottTx Says:

The fuel consumption is 1:1. Plow 1 square = use 1 unit of fuel. Plow 4 squares = use 4 units.
My gauge shows full at 150… So I can sow and seed 75 squares off of a single tank of fuel.
If you start with an 8×8 square and then plant two half rows (2×4) you’ll have 72 squares neatly arranged for your farm equipment to service. You will only use half a tank harvesting. Blessings all.

  • Kevin Pool Says:

Farmville now has harvesters and seeders. They are excellent and allow you to seed/harvest 2×2 also. They use the same fuel. The fuel goes fast.

You can also gift mailbox, bird house and fences.

I bought a 55 gallon using real $ thinking it would keep my gas level at 55 gallons but it doesn’t. It appears to only fill to the next higher gallon when used. I thought that it would fill up to the max but it doesn’t. I’m afraid that it will go down to 1 gallon/150 and never refill to original 55 gallons.

  • Bernardine Says:

Why can we not buy cash with the coins ? They just want our real money ! !

  • Patricia Ridings Says:

The rules state that the tractor shares fuel with the harvester. Why can’t you buy another tractor that has fuel too. Should be able to buy tractors 2 or 3. Whatever necessary to use all the equipment without having to use real money!

  • stifmyster Says:

mmmmm i just baught a plower seeder and harvestor tractor nearly got meh to level 20 =D

  • Gwen Jacques Says:

if you trap your farmer in a small area with bales of hay or fence to goes really fast anyways. no tractor or fuel needed!

  • Toronto Web Design Says:

I’m at lvl 15 right now, can’t wait to get my first tractor. I heard somewhere that you can actually farm with no fuel if you set your plot right.

  • Brian Says:

It’s a horrible shame that all your vehicles use the same meager fuel supply. It’s pointless to bother with a harvester or seeder since the tractor will use up all the fuel before you even get to finish plowing, let alone planting.
I’m ok with the idea of buying the additional fuel tanks, but only if it increases your fuel capacity that automatically refills, not just for a one time refill. That’s just stupid.

  • Yusuf Says:

How much ploughing can a tractor do with one full tank of fuel?
    Can two tractors plough simultaneously?

  • soheil Says:

I also bought 1 fuel and raised my fuel to 300/150. The max remained at 150. I wonder if you buy 10 fuels, would it raise your max to 10???

  • pein13 Says:

as normal we only have 150 fuel points as we first buy the tractors, right??but if we buy fuels, will the tank increase its capacity??or after we use the fuels, the fuels will gone totally and our tanks will regenerate only 150 points again??if thats the thing,,then buying fuels w/ FV is useless..i think its better if after we buy fuels the tank capacity will increase permanently right??

  • Pumpkin Says:

What I love from this tractor is its sound, when it plows and the horn :p

  • Allie Says:

You can also buy fuel without using real money. You get one farmville cash dollar every time you level up, not just if you buy it.

  • farmer joe Says:

someone should write to the creators and editors of farmville and tell them to make everything that is only available in dollars, and make it buyable in coins as well. that would make the game much better.

  • R Says:

A Very Informative Post! I would like to add my two cents.

In my opinion, the game developer made poor decisions when promoting the gaming experience; especially, when it comes to the purchase of farm machinery and their respective gas consumption.

If you have not figured this out already, then this is something you will want to continue reading before wasting more time in the game.

All farm machinery pulls from the same gas stockpile which is 150/150. (150 is the fuel cap) A world example: 0/150 – no more gas and have to wait until fuel regeneration brings you back to 150.

During game play, it does not matter which farm machine you purchase first. The gas value is always 150/150. The tractor is the first machine item available at level 13. The next level you gain the ability to purchase a harvester for an additional 30,000 coins. Unfortunately, the players gas value/cap remains the same at 150/150. In my opinion, it should have doubled to 300/300 and the next machine item at level 14 be 450/450.

Trust me.. The tractor alone will run out of gas before plowing a 14×14 plot. So think about what I just said!!! You ran out gas on a 14×14 plot when plowing. Meaning: You still have to finish plowing and plant!

In contrast, purchasing fuel makes does make sense with coins. Meaning: If I have more machinery, and have a bigger plot, I should consume more gas. (that makes sense) However, capping fuel at 150/150 is dumb; especially when all machines are the same in cost and fuel consumption. Fuel regeneration makes sense for game play, but it should be limited by the users ability to purchase a higher cap with coins. Meaning: If I want 1000/1000 gas cap so be it. This way, I have enough gas to do the jobs, and fuel regenerates respectively to 1000/1000 over time.

SURE YOU CAN BUY A RE-FILL ON GAS

Unfortunately, once you buy a can of gas its a “ONE TIME DEAL”. Granted your fuel goes 300/150; however, once its gone… its GONE!

Then the most gas you can generate is 150/150. In my opinion, if you purchased gas it should go from 150/150 to 300/300. Then when you use the gas, the regeneration would slowly build back up to 300/300. Much like energy in Mafia Wars.

After seeing this limitation while playing…
The game went from cool to SUCK CITY!

Who wants to spend an hour of their day clicking to plow, plant, and harvest a 20×20 plot.

It is more than obvious that the game developer just wants people to open their wallets to purchase silly coins with REAL MONEY!

I cannot believe anyone would be dumb enough to spend real money for a silly gas refill that is only good one time!

Farmville could of been a fun game; however, once you reach level 13,14, and 15 and realize these stupid requirements… interest in the game quickly fizzles out. I know I will not be back any time soon.

  • Lee Says:

A trick that my son-in-law discovered, when self plowing, seeding or harvesting, if you trap the farmer, I usually place him in the sheep pen, you can go faster at anything on the farm. Try it, it works!

  • Therese Says:

    What are the floating coins?

  • Chris Says:

You get 300 xp for buying the tractor, harvester or seeded. They all cost 30,000 and are only 1500 to sell.

  • Chrisikins Says:

The entire purpose of Farmville is nothing whatsoever to do with giving us a game to play and to enjoy.

There is only one purpose to Farmville, as to all other games and that is to keep you on the site and discretely guide you to places where you can spend real money so that they can take a percentage.

Things like Farmville are much more obvious moneymakers for them. I enjoy playing the free version, but unlike others (I actually know a couple of people who have spent real money), I will only play the free version.

Think about it. You would spend Five pounds here in the UK to go to a cinema; another fiver for some popcorn, etc. A fiver spent on a dozen hours of equally enjoyable activity on the computer is a reasonable quid pro quo.

I have no objection to them asking for real money for playing an enhanced game; without those who pay, we would not have any game for free. SOMEBODY has to pay the salaries of those who write it and the profits of the companies who distribute it and the thousands that the massive servers require.

    Chris.

has anyone not realised that over time your farm vouchers add up anyway? I’ve not put a single penny into it and have gotten myself a few fuel refills and other stuffs for my farm..but saying that, since I last emptied out my vouchers on expanding my farm, over four months ago, I have 6. So iot takes a long time, but it’s free!

  • Rick Says:

  • Deluxe05 Says:

Like other players, I bought a tractor (actually the seeder in my case), and was quickly disappointed with how it actually worked. Yes, seeding a 2×2 area is quicker than one plot at a time, but it is not that much quicker. In essence, you plow/seed/harvest in 1/4 of the time it would normally take–assuming that you’ve “trapped” your farmer so that you are not constantly waiting for them to meander around your farm.

The fuel level is the real downside to tractor ownership. Plowing/planting/harvesting a 10×10 plot will consume 2/3 of your fuel. That means that you have to choose which you want to do.

The real solution here would be for Zynga to offer fuel level upgrades similar to how they allow us to expand our farms. Let me spend some hard earned coins or FarmVille cash on raising my fuel cap to 300, 450, 600, etc.

Along with that, they need to increase the fuel regeneration rate to match their new fuel capacity. This way the folks that pay for a higher fuel capacity can also actually use their tractors on a regular basis. This is, after all, why we buy them.

  • Jim Griffith Says:

It is unbelievable that when someone gets something for free they always want more. Here is a blatant fact….if you don’t like the way the game is then get off the computer!!! Now for those that enjoy the friendship of playing along with other friends the way to help your cause is to creat a cause. Facebook listens and if enough people respond in like manner then possibly things can and will change. Yes this is a money making site but guess what…..you at least at this point don’t have to pay to be a member so stop your whining. Ok enough said. Everyone have a happy holiday season.

  • Joshua Says:

I am aware the tractor plows 4 squares at once, but when it plows does it charge you for 1 square(15) or for 4 (60). Also does anyone know how much fuel is used per use (a 2 by 2 square)?

    Please and Thank You.

  • Rick Says:

    @Joshua
The Tractor in FarmVille uses 1 fuel per plot. So, if you plow the 4 empty plots possible when using the FarmVille Tractor, you will use 4 fuel. The cost remains the same, 15 per plot. So, using the Tractor, it would be 60 for the 4 plots.

  • Mark - Farmville Tips Says:

Hey, just wanted to say that this was helpful.

  • Achshar Says:

so i am level 28 and i now have all, a tractor, harvestor, and seeder.. but i seriously feel that they should have some thi ng to increase the max capacity coz it might be fine for lower levels… bujt at higher levels it dosend even cover half when i am at 24×24 farm size…leaving aside 40% of the space for trees and decors…

Time your crop to save money and time. It take about 6hrs to for a gas refill plant seeds that will harvest 6hrs apart and limit and space the amount out in that way you can use all 3 of your machines saving you alot of time. only problem is you need good memory. another tip is every time you login on your farmVille screen your character always appears in the middle of your farm what you need to do is build a fence around him/her in order to so perform faster on your farm. you should try it

  • necy Says:

i have a 22 by 22 and it works well for me

  • Jason Says:

On the tractor: True.. it runs out of fuel before you plow the whole thing… however… if you cleverly plant different crops that you can harvest at different times (ex: 24 hour crop and 12 hour crop) then you can plow and seed half your field in the morning and half your field at night, the same concept can be used to split your field into quarters and this way you can use all 3 – harvester, tractor, seeder and not ever run out of fuel.

cant you just use the tractor to plow, and when it runs out of fuel, just get off and finish the rest by hand? by the time the crops are ready to harvest and you have to plow again, wont you have your fuel back again? in either case, it doesn’t take that long to do everything by hand. why bother with the plow at all? i am not getting one.
