FarmVille Tips and Tricks: Plow Faster with a Tractor

The new FarmVille Tractor

What does the FarmVille Tractor do?

While playing FarmVille today, I got a pop up message telling me that “FarmVille has been Enhanced.” The note that accompanied that message explained that they have implemented a new item into the game, a Tractor. However, the FarmVille Tractor is not just for decoration. At a cost of 30,000 coins, the FarmVille Tractor will allow you to plow a 2×2 section at a time as opposed to a single plot at a time without the Tractor. As with most items in the game, buying them rewards you with XP. Unfortunately, another pop up blocked my view of exactly how much XP purchasing the tractor awarded. However, thanks to some truly awesome readers, we got the information via comments. It appears to give 300XP when purchased.

How does the FarmVille Tractor work?

Once purchased, the FarmVille Tractor adds a second option to the Plow menu:

Selecting this new option will allow you to plow 2×2 plots at a time:

How do you refuel the FarmVille Tractor?

They do require FarmVille Tractor Fuel to operate.

As you can see in the image above, after using the tractor to plow it reduces the FarmVille Tractor Fuel a small amount. As of right now, I’m not able to determine how to refuel the FarmVille Tractor’s Fuel. I’m either missing something, or the FarmVille creators have not added that feature yet. Otherwise, it may require the FarmVille Tractor’s fuel gauge to be completely empty prior to giving you the option to refuel. Ok, thanks again to some great readers, I received comments that confirm that the fuel refills gradually over time. Also, buying two tractors currently has no benefit. This may change in the future, but two individuals have reported no increase in total fuel or fuel regeneration speed. If anyone notices something different, or otherwise has more information, make a comment and let me know.

— UPDATE 8/20 —
The Facebook Game FarmVille has been updated and now includes purchasable fuel for your tractors! .. Wait.. you can’t buy it with coins? It takes FarmVille Cash? That sucks. Yeah, that’s right. Zynga has released yet another update to their FarmVille game, and it requires you to spend REAL money. I looked back at the game, and I think the ‘Fuel Tanks’ as they are labeled under the Tractors section of the market, may add additional fuel capacity to the tractor rather than refilling the fuel. This seems to be more likely rather than my first assumption. The fuel tanks only refill your fuel levels. One reader commented saying that purchasing one of the refuel tanks gave him or her 300 out of the total possible 150 fuel. Once that was used, it was gone.

I have mixed feelings about this.
The bad:

  • This is stupid, there isn’t ANY way to get a Tractors fuel refilled other than time, or spending real cash.
  • It upsets me, because I KNOW there are people out there that will pay money for this, further encouraging them to add more items that require real money to purchase.

The good?:

  • Some people will spend real money on the game to purchase the fuel. This, in turn, will attract more attention from Zynga causing them to create more content and produce more updates.

What do you think about the FarmVille Tractor Fuel refills costing real cash?

With all of that being said. There seems to be three benefits to the most recent update that we don’t have to pay (real cash) for:

  1. A new color of tractor.
  2. New crops!
    • Carrots
    • Red Wheat
    • Yellow Melon

Check out my other FarmVille post, Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 1) – Best Income / XP Crops, for more crop information.

  3. Fuel Gauge Popup

FarmVille Fuel Gauge Popup

FarmVille Fuel Gauge Popup

Hovering your mouse over the Fuel Gauge now displays the total amount of fuel you currently have out of 150, and a countdown timer of how long until you will receive more fuel. The timer counts down form 2:30 (2 minutes thirty seconds) and will reward you with 1 additional point of fuel when it runs out. It also looks like they may have increased the maximum amount of fuel from 100 to 150.. although, I was never able to confirm that the original counter was 100 to begin with.

What the FarmVille Tractor wont do.

The FarmVille Tractor does not help you harvest or plant your crops. All it does is help you plow the fields. I would assume they will be coming out with other equipment you can purchase that will help with the other aspects of farming (planting and harvesting).

A fun little ‘Horn’ option is in the list. I won’t spoil the fun, try it out for yourself.

Should I buy two FarmVille Tractors to increase my fuel?

As mentioned elsewhere in this post, having two FarmVille Tractors will not currently be beneficial. Two of my readers / FarmVille players have reported buying a second FarmVille Tractor and it has neither increased their total fuel, nor their fuel regeneration rate. Although, as pointed out by Farmer Doug, the Tractor does look pretty cool. Having a 2nd on your FarmVille Farm would make for a nice decoration. So, as it is right now, owning two will not effect your FarmVille Tractor Fuel.

Is the FarmVille Tractor worth the 30,000 coins?

Wow, alot of people here really arent smart. The farmville creators are making you pay for it because they can. They have sucked everyone in with the free items and everyone wants more. So now that they know people want more the inroduce new items into the game that cost real money and the funny thing is, people will actually pay real money for farmville cash.

necy and Jason have the right ideas anyway

peace out, and get a life if u paid real money :)

Thank you Kyle. BTW, they have a tractor, harvester, and seeder now, but i dunno if all of them share a fuel source. even if they do, BIG DEAL!!! Sure, it doesnt do your whole farm, and it wasnt meant to. it HELPS. I can plow 75 squares, which is more than half of my farm. It was such a pain to have to do the whole thing on my own, and now 2/3 of the seeding and plowing is already done by the tractor, then i do it manually. And actually, it only takes about 6.5 hours to refill. THAT IS A LOT QUICKER THAN IT TAKES TO GROW MY CROPS. I can then do all of my harvesting on the harvester. And, stop complaining about the fact that you have to spend a bit of $$ every once of a while. It is very expensive to make a game and host it online. I doubt Zynga even breaks even.

    Thank you, Kyle!

after Christmas i have 10823/150 (72 refills) and when i plow my whole farm i don’t use a whole tank and by the time i come backs to harvest or plant all the fuel is back i wish i would have gotten something else for Christmas :(

So about FarmVille trying to make money….really? If you put the work into creating a well thought out and well put together game like FarmVille, wouldn’t you want to get something out of it? If you don’t want to purchase anything you don’t have to (Kudos to FarmVille)…but they make the experience better WITH cash, allowing them to see some return for their hard work.

    Nothing wrong with FarmVille dollars.

  • Sleyah Says:

What I hate as much as the fact that Zynga charges real money is the fact that some cash items (such as the new Clydesdale horse) can only be purchased for a limited time, making it difficult to simply earn the cash and buy it. I love Farmville, but I don’t love it enough to spend my hard earned money on things that really should be “free”, anyway. This is hardly expected of a game that really makes you earn your rewards–it’s a farm, for crying out loud!

  • Patricia L Keifman Says:

I am receiving gifts from other farmers but when I click on accept it brings me to the Zynga place and it doesn’t show anywhere that I have received a gift? Where do I click to actually get the gift to my farm?

  • Rick Says:

    @Patricia
You should see an icon in the lower right hand corner of the play area of a Gift Box. Clicking on this icon and selecting the Gifts option will allow you to see and use the gifts you have available to you.

  • Irene Maiden Says:

What annoys me about the tractor, the seeder and the harvester ist that they are so big and there seems to be nowhere you can store them away to.

  • Michael feehan Says:

There is no limit on fuel I got alot from christmas and just through it all in 1284/150 If anyone wants add me as a friend so we can be neighbors I need more

  • Sas Says:

what a waste of time, it wom’t make any differance to the game. I’ll never buy one!

  • Roy Says:

Regarding blocking in your farmer, I believe there is an added benefit. When someone visits/tends your farm, if your farmer is blocked in the middle square, their farmer is also blocked and this makes it easier for them to tend your farm without all the walking around. Please advise me if this is not true.

  • Mikersson Says:

Hello, I wanna share my experience after read this post. This morning I have 100% fuel in my level, and 28 fuel tanks in my gifts. I couldnt get more gifts coz my storage was ful… ok, I decided then to use all the fuel I had in my gift store… what happen then??
AFTER THAT, my status level says:

    Fuel 630/150
    More in 2:28

What it means? that I have a quarter of 630?
I have to see that, which also means my fuel is going to be refiled all the time until I use all that 150 (tanks?)
This s not clear for me.
    what do you think?

  • Mikersson Says:

I see how it works now. Now I have used all tmy fuel and it says 1535/150
    more in 2:09
    The energy is acumulative
ok, I start to undestand a little more each day

    I need neighboors:

  • Rodrigo Garcia Says:

Well, i think that fuel refilling so damn slow is very stupid as it looses it’s utility (asuming you’re one of the thousands of player, i’m gessing that it’s the mayority, who won’t expend real money or at least not in a regular bases in some facebook game for entertaining that it may be.)

I’ve also realized that this entry it’s old as it doesn’t contemplate the fact that now there are besides the tractor, a harvester and a seeder that works the same way than the tractor except that they do the other jobs.

Zynga it’s not thinking that this “problem” (or abuse) will end up discouraging people (like me) who has a big farm so it takes to much time plowing seeding and harvesting square by square

NOTE: By the way regarding the amount of slots that the tractor can plow. There is now a limited offer to get the chance to buy for 45 thousand coins a 9 slots-plowing tractor IF you play their other game mafia wars and make it to lvl 10.
I did it, it is worth the time playing the other game, but then again it’s pointless if you can’t move it because you ran out of fuel!.

I apologize for my english =)

    Cool Blog by the way.
