Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 1) – Best Income / XP Crops
Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 1) – Best Income / XP Crops
FarmVille vs. Farm Town
Interesting. FarmVille is curiously similar to Farm Town. In fact, my spreadsheet that I created for Farm Town seems to work just fine when you plug the FarmVille information in. I’m not a lawyer, nor am I well versed with the law.. but, the creators of Farm Town may want to contact a lawyer. lol. Many of the aspects are exactly the same, the leveling system, farm layout, purchasable items… scary.
FarmVille Crops – Income
It costs 15 coins to plow a field in order to plant crops in the facebook game FarmVille. Changing this information in my spreadsheet along with the costs and sale prices (self harvest for now, if there is a difference in FarmVille, I’m not aware of it yet) we can calculate the best value crops.

Super Berries
Cost: 10 Sell: 100 Harvest Time: 2 hours (3 days) Planting XP: 1
Super Berries were released when FarmVille’s Facebook Fan page’s fan total reached 500,000. Zynga has stated that they will be available this weekend only (Aug 22nd / 23rd, 2009). It is likely, however, they will bring them back every now and then.
FarmVille XP
Experience in FarmVille appears to be earned whenever you plant a crop, a tree.. or an object. The most common way to earn XP is by planting crops, since this is done most often. At this time, it appears as if Strawberries are the the best crop for earning XP. The fact that they can be harvested (and then planted again) ever 4 hours gives them this title. If you are not able to harvest and re-plant every 4 hours, they are just as beneficial as any other crop. Essentially, the more often you plant a crop, the more XP you will earn.

Crops that share numbers are tied with one another.
* Raspberries do not give XP for planting. However, you earn 1 XP for plowing. Because they are a two hour crop, you can plow twice in a 4 hour time period. This means over 4 hours, you can earn 2 XP, the same as Plowing and Planting Black Berries, Blueberries, and Strawberries. That being said, they are inferior to each of the other #1 crops, the math just works out for them to all be tied. If I were to take into account the time it takes to harvest, plow and re-plant the Raspberries, they would not be equal on this list.

FarmVille Spreadsheet
I have had a lot of people ask me for my calculations and how I’ve arrived at my results. I keep a spreadsheet that I use to calculate the information. Each crop is calculated hourly, costs are deducted and profits / benefits are calculated.

I don’t know if things have changed since some of you have commented, but Rabbits DO make money. They do take a few days to harvest (NO you cannot harvest them at anytime, you have to wait until it says Ready to harvest), and you get 60 coins for Angora wool.
And whoever said peppers aren’t worth it anymore and chose blueberries, must have no life and have all the time in the world to harvest and plow and plant blueberries every 4 damn hours.
September 10th, 2009 at 7:24 am
trees:
Plant akai trees, or lemon trees, when you reached your maximum field size (20×20?).
there are 16 trees per plot of land, in other words the income of 16 trees should be compared to a plot of land.
This probably makes sense when you pass level 30.
Later you can exchange coins for XP, by buying and selling hay bales.
September 11th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
They have added grapes, could you put them in the list please?
September 12th, 2009 at 3:58 am
Have you forgotten about grapes?
Cost : 85 gp, Plow : 15 gp, Harvest time : 1 day, Sell for : 270 gp = 170gp profit. 170 / 23 hours (1day) = 7.39 coins per hour wich is actually more money per hour then what you gain planting tomatoes.

The best crop that takes 1 day is PEAS!!!!(not sunflowers..)
calculations include plowing
sunflowers 3xp cost 135+15=150
sell-315 = 165 profit daily per plot
peas 4xp cost 190+15=205
sell-381 = 176 profit daily per plot
thier worth 3 xp (+1plowing) and a profit of 176 per plant per day. which is optimal for sumone like me that only checks it once per day.
most profitable crop isnt tomatoes
Cost 100+15=115
Sell 173 – 58 profit per 8 hours XP 1+1
daily thats 174 and 6xp per plot
or black berries
cost 75+15=90
sell 117 – 27 profit per 4 hours xp 1+1
daily thats 162 and 12 xp per plot.
however this would mean harvesting,plowing and seeding your field 6 times a day
im sticking with peas

You get 1 FarmVille cash for each level up you achieve.
September 13th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
u get 1 farmvile cash everytime you go up a level
September 13th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
@Delane
Your calculations appear correct. However, unlike you, some people can and do check their farms more than once a day. This opens up other FarmVille crops to be beneficial.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I had the same reaction with the rabbits. Beats me why they put them in there.

Sunflowers”
This is not true!!!

FARMVILLE WILL KILL WOW
September 18th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
@bledos
Yep, you’re correct. I hadn’t updated that section since the new crops came out. I also changed Tomatoes as being the best producing 8 hour crop to Sugar Cane.
September 24th, 2009 at 2:34 am
The best 1 day crop (23 hour) now is Peas. 3XP per planting plus 176 coins profit per planting.
September 24th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
the fact that you cannot purchase the fuel with coins is upsetting.. you spend 30,000 coins on the tractor & then when the fuel runs out it takes all day for them to add. I think there should be an option to purchase fuel with the farm cash or coins as they do with expanding the farm.
September 27th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Why aren’t peas the best 1 day crop vs. grapes? They’re more profit and more XP???
September 29th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
There should be some other way to earn the dollars than to go buy them. Only getting one per level sucks big time. There should be some way to convert coins into dollars. Say 100,000 coins to get one dollar. Then an ambitious farmer would be able to buy more land without having to get more nieghbours.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
having special items that do something like super berries is great and baby elephants but to have a balloon that has no sale value and takes up so much space is kind of redundant. Although the price was right.
September 30th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Ummmmm, I’m pretty sure that Soybeans have the best cost to sell ratio guys. It’s the only one that you quadriple your money on. Don’t know how anyone else missed that!
September 30th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
@meb
Thank you for pointing this out, when I updated the other information I must have missed this section.
September 30th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
@Matthew
If you subtract the costs from the sale price, and then divide that number by the harvest time, you will get the profit per hour.
Doing this for Soybeans looks like:
(Sale) 63 – (Cost to plow and buy seeds) 30 = 33
(Total Profit) 33 / (hours to harvest) 23 = (profit per hour) 1.43478…
Now, lets look at Peas:
(Sale) 381 – (Cost to plow and buy seeds) 205 = 176
(Total Profit) 176 / (hours to harvest) 23 = (profit per hour) 7.65217…
So, for planting Soybeans, you earn 1.43.. coins per hour over the harvest length. If you plant Peas, you will earn 7.65.. coins per hour over the harvest length. Be sure to include all costs associated with planting a crop (plowing).
Also, this method can be used to compare crops of different harvest lengths.. for instance, Yellow Melon, a 4 day crop.
(Sale) 528 – (Cost to plow and buy seeds) 220 =
(Total Profit) 308 / (hours to harvest) 92 = (profit per hour) 3.34782…
September 30th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
You can block in your avatar by placing him/her in a corner and blocking him/her in with hay bales.. This was you can harvest much quicker and plant much quicker!

October 21st, 2009 at 4:08 pm
hey..
why is 1 day = 23 hours??
October 23rd, 2009 at 3:22 pm
@Sid
I don’t know for certain, however, I have an idea. Some people get on facebook once a day.. let’s say, after work. If these people were to get on at 8pm and plant a 1 day crop, and it were to take 24 hours to be ready to harvest, the next day they would harvest at around 8pm, plow, then plant, by 8:30 – 9:00. The next day, they wouldn’t be able to harvest until 8:30 – 9:00. This would push the time back more and more until the person wasn’t able to stay up late enough. By making the crops 23 hour, there is a 1 hour cushion to help avoid this. At least, that’s why I think they did it.
October 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Hey yea i’m with muhaman here. There’s so many new crops out now you should put them all up here, that would help out tremendously. Thanks a ton for the help so far though

You know patience is one factor of being succesful. First you should know how to manage time. 2nd master crop/crops that will suit your time. Becoz if u got it mastered, you will will receive +1 exp. plow+1. $planting grapes(what i plant)+1. + the mastery+1. that makes 3. im studying 8 hours. busy for homeworks. plant 6pm today.finished harvesting in 6:20pm tomorrow.
thats my plan. if saturdays. i plant strawberries as much as i could.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
HAY BALES are a miracle. even if u dont have a lot of money, just buy and sell hay bales for quick xp. but…make sure that ur whole field is planted first so that u have enough money to have a whole field planted, and some extra money for hay bales.
October 27th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Grapes are awsome!!! so much better then cabbage. im a levle 39 and selling and buyiong haybales give u a shit load of xp
October 28th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
even though that I don’t have seen that spreadsheet, I agree to the ranking of the seeds that you post according to $$, XP, and duration. I think I will arrive at the same result as to your’s, if I will make my own spreadsheet, so thanks.. I had this as my reference.
October 29th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
lock up your man with fencing right in the middle where he starts. this will double your speed for harvesting because he wont have to go to each square to harvest
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:26 am
erm… theres 24 hours in a day, not 23 as you’ve written.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:16 am
@Tasha
Although there are 24 hours in one Earth day, there are only 23 hours in a FarmVille day. By planting a one day crop at 8pm, the crop will be ready to harvest at 7pm the following day. I’ve speculated that this is to give people that get on the computer once a night a chance to harvest, plow, and re-plant by 8pm again. Otherwise, the harvest time would continually be pushed back.

@b swiss
I don’t know what game you are playing. Rice is profitable.
Cost: 45 Sell: 96 Plow: 15
Income minus total cost equals profit.
96 – 60 = 36
This means: Rice is not horrible, you do not lose coins every time, I did not forget to take into account the cost of plowing and I did not make a major mistake in my numbers. I believe this clearly shows who the “idiot” is.
