Facebook: FarmVille Tips and Tricks (Part 1) – Best Income / XP Crops
FarmVille vs. Farm Town
Interesting. FarmVille is curiously similar to Farm Town. In fact, my spreadsheet that I created for Farm Town seems to work just fine when you plug the FarmVille information in. I’m not a lawyer, nor am I well versed with the law.. but, the creators of Farm Town may want to contact a lawyer. lol. Many of the aspects are exactly the same, the leveling system, farm layout, purchasable items… scary.
FarmVille Crops – Income
It costs 15 coins to plow a field in order to plant crops in the facebook game FarmVille. Changing this information in my spreadsheet along with the costs and sale prices (self harvest for now, if there is a difference in FarmVille, I’m not aware of it yet) we can calculate the best value crops.

Super Berries
Cost: 10 Sell: 100 Harvest Time: 2 hours (3 days) Planting XP: 1
Super Berries were released when FarmVille’s Facebook Fan page’s fan total reached 500,000. Zynga has stated that they will be available this weekend only (Aug 22nd / 23rd, 2009). It is likely, however, they will bring them back every now and then.
FarmVille XP
Experience in FarmVille appears to be earned whenever you plant a crop, a tree.. or an object. The most common way to earn XP is by planting crops, since this is done most often. At this time, it appears as if Strawberries are the the best crop for earning XP. The fact that they can be harvested (and then planted again) ever 4 hours gives them this title. If you are not able to harvest and re-plant every 4 hours, they are just as beneficial as any other crop. Essentially, the more often you plant a crop, the more XP you will earn.

Crops that share numbers are tied with one another.
* Raspberries do not give XP for planting. However, you earn 1 XP for plowing. Because they are a two hour crop, you can plow twice in a 4 hour time period. This means over 4 hours, you can earn 2 XP, the same as Plowing and Planting Black Berries, Blueberries, and Strawberries. That being said, they are inferior to each of the other #1 crops, the math just works out for them to all be tied. If I were to take into account the time it takes to harvest, plow and re-plant the Raspberries, they would not be equal on this list.

FarmVille Spreadsheet
I have had a lot of people ask me for my calculations and how I’ve arrived at my results. I keep a spreadsheet that I use to calculate the information. Each crop is calculated hourly, costs are deducted and profits / benefits are calculated.

This is a great page! Like others said if you are going for XP you syhould try to get the maximum expertise level although jeapordizing a few coins in the mean time. Then your plants will have more xp until max lvl when you can worry avbout more money…Also, For a farm that sticks out from the rest, figure out how to manipulate the 3d environment to simulate a “stacking” effect with fences, hedges and hay. You can find info on google Rick if you would like to add it to your cool site.

The best plant by far is Sweet Corn. If you were smart like myself and filled out surveys using phony names, you could make quite a bit of FarmVille Cash, which are no longer available. This left me with quite a bit of cash. I noticed they added Sweet Corn for Haiti, and with lots of extra cash I decided to check it out. The plant is harvested every 6 hours, you get 3 XP each time you plant it, it gives you 125 coins a piece, and the seeds only cost 10 coins. So I decided to spend the 25 FV Cash for the rights to this plant for a week(why not, its for a good cause!) and did some calculations. The plant only costing 10 coins a piece and in addition to the 15 coins it takes to plow, that’s still a 100 coin profit per plant. With 6 hours you can do that four times a day, but some of that time may fall within the late hours of the night, so realisticly speaking you’ll get three harvests in a day. Now I have the 22×22 farm, which gives me 484 spots. Subtract 2 for my character and seeder, thus giving me 482 spots. Now that means with each harvest I’m making a 48,200 coin harvest, 3 times a day gives me 144,600 dollar profit. Now if I manage to do this everyday for the week I have the rights to this plant, that gives me a total profit of 1,012,200 coins. That’s enough for a friggin’ Villa. Now the best part of this crop is the XP gained from it. 3 points per plant, plus an extra point for plowing, a total of 4 XP points. With one harvest/plow/seeding process, that gives me a total of 1,928 XP points. That’s a lot of points. Once again, I did this 3 times a day giving me a total of 5,784 XP points a day, and with the whole week that’s 40,480 points. This is a lot to gain, over a million dollar profit and 40,000 XP points, that’ll give you the money and the level to get that Villa everyone seems to want. This is a great investment I’m on my second week of Sweet Corn and I have passed all the highest level neighbors I have. If you have a credit card, you can spend 5 bucks on getting the farm cash for this crop. Farmville Cash wise, its worth every penny for the rewards.

I have to disagree with some of your numbers.
I was agreeing with you on
blackberries being best,
followed by blueberries.
However you have tomatoes listed as #8 on your list. Maybe its how I’m calculating the numbers.
I am solely basing my formula on crops you
can Plant/Harvest/Replant in 24 hours on single plot of land(POL).
here’s my formula:
It starts off with a NEGATIVE cost
( you HAVE to first buy them, right? )
-cost + SellFor = Grossprofit
Grossprofit – PlowCost = Netprofit
Netprofit x PHR =Daily profit
(PHR = plant/harvest /replant in one day)
so for example: Blueberries ( xp = 1 )
-50 + 91 = 41 ( grossprofit )
41 – 15(plow) = 26 ( netprofit )
26 x 6(phr) = 156 coin/per plot of land
——————————————
Blackberries (xp = 1 ):
-75 + 117 = 42 ( grossprofit )
42 – 15(plow) = 27 ( net )
27 x 6(phr) = 162 coin/per POL
——————————————
tomatoes ( xp = 1):
-100 + 173 = 73 ( grossprofit )
73 – 15 = 58 ( net )
58 x 3(phr) = 174 coin/per POL
———————————————-

Just found you Googling around, I’ll be back. Great post!
December 6th, 2009 at 11:46 am
What I can’t understand is why you take the cost of plowing into account when it’s a constant. If you’re trying to figure out how much money you’d need, I understand. I have a crapload of coins (I’m only a level 9), so it isn’t a factor.
Now, I made a spreadsheet before I found this site (great minds think alike. Mine calculates how much you make per hour.
Seed Buy for Sell for Harvest time Total profit XP Points
Wheat 35 115 72 1.111111111 2
Eggplant 25 88 48 1.3125 2
Artichokes 70 204 96 1.395833333 2
Daffodils 60 135 48 1.5625 2
Squash 40 121 48 1.6875 2
Cotton 75 207 72 1.833333333 2
Soybeans 15 63 24 2 2
Poinsetta 45 126 24 3.375 3
Rice 45 96 12 4.25 1
Pumpkin 30 68 8 4.75 1
Strawberries 10 35 4 6.25 1
Raspberries 20 46 2 13 0
(Like I said, level 9, so that’s all I have available)
Then, I plant according to 1) Which seed yields the highest amount of coins, and 2) When I’m able to get to my PC. If I’m going to be gone all day, I won’t pick anything under 8 hours. From there, I pick whichever yields the highest per hour. Why? Well, wheat gives you 80 coins, but you’d have to wait three days for it. You can plant raspberries every two hours and get 936 coins in the same time, assuming you’d actually be able to harvest every two hours.
I haven’t factored in XP points yet. There’s a couple of ways to do it: After you know what to choose from based on highest coins per hour and your harvest availability, pick which one has the most XP points. Also, I have a chart that lists how many XP points you can earn in 96 hours if you harvested on time, every time. It’s unrealistic, so that’s why it’s good to have the chart. When I multiply the XP factor and the Income factor, Strawberries are on top, followed by pumpkins, then Poinsettas, then rice.
Last, math does not lie: Raspberries yied the highest income per hour, but the worst choice if you actually want to gain XP points. Sure, you get a point for plowing, but you get a point if you plow AND plant something that yields XP points.

alright my biggest tip on farmville would be, you know how when people or farmville sends you a gift that’s like, a bench or a well or a rest tent, and you place on your farm and your little person has to go over and “build” it? well when your person is walking over and while its building if you quickly click into your gifts it will still say the same thing an you can press use again and if you put it on your farm before the other finishes building then you have 2 free items, and you can sell one or both or keep both. your welcome!
December 13th, 2009 at 6:29 am
slt ca va je ve des xp
December 16th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
In your list Best XP crops in order, you tie together crops with similar hour/xp rates together without giving regard to gold profit. Although the list refers soley to xp gains,Pumpkins should not be listed before Tomatoes. Here, I’ll explain. Pumpkins both give 1 xp to plant, every 8 hours, however Tomatoes earns an extra 4.4 coins an hour. If you take into account that coins can be converted to xp through either buying buildings (1/100 xp to coin ratio) or buying hay bales (1/20 xp to coin ratio) Tomatoes earn more potential xp than pumpkins.
December 27th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Tip: Put haybales or something else around your farmer in the middle of the farm. This way the farmer person is stuck in between haybales & can’t walk around. This will speed up the process A LOT!!! Your welcome! Lol

i consider this site is very nice but i dint understand how raspberries are known fo giving xp
January 3rd, 2010 at 12:28 am
your list of crops by monetary value fails in that it does not include the factor of time. Grapes are under no circumstances a better crop for money. you did this for raspberries in xp, why not for monies!
January 3rd, 2010 at 7:33 am
how can i get free FARMVILLE CASH ? ( without buying it or completing offers because the offers are dissappeared )
January 3rd, 2010 at 1:45 pm
@sherwin
As you are aware, Raspberries don’t give XP when planted. However, because they are a 2 hour crop you can plow twice in a 4 hour period. This allows you to earn the same amount of XP as a 4 hour corp that gives 1 XP for planting. 1 XP for plowing, 1 XP for planting every 4 hours with a 4 hour crop, or 2 XP for plowing twice in the 4 hour period with a 2 hour crop. In most cases I only use Raspberries when I know I’ll be on the computer or able to get to the computer in 2 hours, but not in 4.
I hope this helps.
January 3rd, 2010 at 2:16 pm
@w00dy
I don’t know what you mean exactly. The crops are sorted by hourly earnings… Grapes are listed 4th because they have the 4th highest hourly earnings of all crops. Being as the earnings are calculated hourly, time is being factored in. I also don’t understand what you are saying I did differently with Raspberries in XP..
I’ve been considering making a list of the best crops according to their harvest length. That way, people could simply determine when they will be back at their computer and ready to harvest and check the list for the closest applicable crop according to harvest length.

The only way I know to get free FarmVille cash, excluding the methods you listed, is by leveling up.
January 5th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
i’m in lvl 29 and for some levels before i unlocked GRAPES, which i think and it’s also proved, are by far the most profitable daily! we cannot count for profit per hour or per 4 hours or even 6 or 8…etc! no one will do it forever and the chain will break! for me once a day is the best and not only u don’t get bored of the game, but also u earn ur life!! i spent daily 15 mins, or more if i wanna decor my farm….
P.S : list with XP has some mistakes, considering it’s made up for XP and not XP/coin
However very good job…keep on!!

Now, if we can factor in a new fuel tank every 6 hours, and what processor speed we have, minus the aggragate Internet latency, then we can have real mathmatical solutions! Therefore, better virtual farmers!

Why do you have all of the 1 day crops listed as 23 hours? Shouldn’t it be 24 hours? My calculations are a little different than yours on all the 1 day crops. It’s just not making sense to me.
March 16th, 2010 at 10:35 am
@Matt
Check out the FarmVille FAQ, or read up in the forums a bit. Zynga made a FarmVille day 23 hours rather than 24. My theory is that they did this so if you start planting a 1 day crop when you get home from work at 6pm, and finish around 7pm, the crop will be ready to harvest the next day at 6pm. This way you can harvest, plow, and re-plant before 7pm. If this weren’t the case, the time it takes to harvest, plow, and re-plant would eventually push the harvest time back until it was too late in the evening for some people.
I hope this makes sense.

all the infomation about planting and xp is good but the biggest factor for me and a lot of people is timing, for working people maybe a 24hr. crop is best and the best is peas if you are at that level, not at the level then grapes. The new co-op farming is the best thing I think, it encourages planting and goals to set but we need new jobs to go after. I love co-op farming
May 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
The faster you keep the plow, sow and harvest cycle turning over, the more coins and XP points you will accumulate. Also get all the farm upgrades that you can then add extra fields up to the maximum allowed. Planting and harvesting quickly will soon bring in the rewards.
May 13th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
does farmville have a crop that makes farm cash earn faster?

Can someone tell me how to send a building materials request to my friends? I am building a stable (not an expansion) and other than asking for materials on my wall,I want to ask my friends for an item directly on their Farmville. They send my things all the time but I can’t figure out how to send one back. Some have told me to go into the stable and hit the “expand” button but I don’t have that option.

If you didn’t know, there is 24 hours in a day, not 23!!!

And, in three days, there is 72 hours, and in four days, there is 96 hours.8{}

I actually get 4 xp for each raspberry plant I plant on the iPod/iPhone version of Farmville. So when I need to make xp, I use that instead of my facebook version.

Tell me something NEW please! I just want to plant and grow without having to go online within 4hrs to harvest. I don’t have enough time to play this game 24/7. And I believe many people that uses the game has the same issue… plus I don’t want to spend my own $$$ to buy cash or FV, it’s not a good idea to use money in a “GAME” that at the end it’s just to kill time… at least not proper for me. Well, every mind it’s a world, but take my advice from experience! Not such a good idea to spend on games!… Anyways, any oher ideas to trick the system?

Ugh… I’ve answered this a few times now. In a normal, earth day there are 24 hours. In a Farmville day (with regard to crops that say ’1 day’, ’2 days’, etc, the days are counted as 23 hours each.

@Anthony
Absolutely, it’s been a while since I’ve played FarmVille, so this post hasn’t been on my mind as of late. I’ll see if my sources are still active and compute some numbers soon. Thank you for the reminder!

if you only want XPs and you have excess gold coins to spare like mine (few millions) all you have to do is plow and delete immediately the plots(you get your XP instantly). If you have finished doing that and have to leave the game, then thats the only time you plant something. XPsss!!!!
